Security & Compliance
During this era of increased regulations, data must be secure and private in order to protect intellectual property, maximize business success, and force accountability. Additionally, in a SaaS environment, security & compliance are necessary for customer trust and therefore, market success.
To enable users to build secure, compliant applications, we are introducing an additional product to the Progress OpenEdge Enterprise RDBMS, known as Transparent Data Encryption (TDE). This add-on capability, along with other new features provides the most cost effective and compliant data privacy solution available on the market today.
TDE protects sensitive data throughout the entire data lifecycle. It encrypts data on disk, whether the data is in the database, a backup or a binary dump and maintains the data encryption throughout the lifecycle. TDE use industry standard encryption libraries and adheres to the PCI data security standard. This new level of data protection is available with minimal impact on development time and costs.
- No application changes are required, and all applications continue to work as before
- TDE avoids the overhead and potential issues created if a custom built solution were to be deployed
Increased Business Visibility
With this latest release of the OpenEdge SaaS Platform, Progress Actional can now monitor a variety of OpenEdge resources. Actional allows for the automatic discovery of application transaction flow and monitors performance without requiring any coding changes. When performance or availability issues arise, IT can immediately pinpoint the root cause of the problem and quickly resolve the issue. Together OpenEdge and Actional provide a powerful Progress offering of business transaction management that ensures the successful completion of all transactions. With this level of management, companies are able to achieve operational and business visibility, root cause analysis and the added control of services required in a heterogeneous environment.
Additionally, Actional now supports the use of the OpenEdge database as its data repository, simplifying the database choice and management for organizations using OpenEdge technology.
Developer Productivity
Enhancements to the OpenEdge Architect and OpenEdge GUI for .NET features have improved developer productivity, in this latest release. New functionality includes:
- Improved OpenEdge Architect integration with other business applications
- Migration tools for upgrading user interface controls
- Greater customization and flexibility in development of a richer user experience
