Search and business intelligence (BI) tools are evolving to become increasingly complementary. As more business users require access to information, it is no longer sufficient to have just a BI reporting solution. The existing barriers of "knowing where to look" for information and "knowing how to ask" severely limits the type of information that can be accessed.

EasyAsk Data Search and Query solutions are complementary to the business intelligence infrastructure and, while leveraging the value of standard reporting, provide an easy-to-use interface that allows a non-technical, business user to search for information across multiple data sources with a single query.

As part of the "Progress Family", EasyAsk Data Search & Query solutions are integrated with the products of the other operating divisions within Progress. This allows progress to provide business applications to a wide range of markets. Such integration enables:

  • Progress OpenEdge (Business application platform)
    Together, EasyAsk and Progress OpenEdge create a platform to both manage the capture of information as well as the discovery process. EasyAsk enables access across a single or multiple business applications and provides users a means to search and query that information using the query language everyone knows...everyday language. OpenEdge customers can now enable access by non-technical business users to information contained within their operational data bases. EasyAsk’s natural language technology supports a wide variety of applications built upon the OpenEdge platform ranging from customer facing e-commerce product search to business application ad-hoc data search and query.

  • Progress Apama (Event Stream Processing)
    The Events Database built within the Apama Event Stream Processing engine is rich with information. EasyAsk technology can open up that for access by business users or employees. This enables accessibility to, for example, a specific book’s location within a bookstore that uses RFID tagging to track, reconcile and manage inventory.

  • Sonic Software (SOA Infrastructure)
    EasyAsk is built on an open service-oriented architecture (SOA) that can integrate with other applications using a number of different technologies. EasyAsk provides web services integration as part of its core product functionality. This allows EasyAsk to be seamlessly embedded into any SOA-based application.

Embedding a data search and query tool into an application enables an AP’s customers to easily ask for, locate and use data that they know exists in the APs application, but traditionally can't find without help.

The solution offers an accurate, timely, and unified view of service-specific content across the functions of self-service, assisted agent-based service, and field service.

  • EasyAsk for Commerce (B2B and B2C)
    EasyAsk is a powerful and comprehensive search platform that offers precise search and navigation capabilities as well as advanced merchandising for commerce sites. EasyAsk offers online customers an easy-to-use and effective search function and that is the key to increasing business-to-consumer (B2C) and business-to-business (B2B) sales.
