Corporations typically have dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of data source instances distributed across the enterprise. Typically, these data sources are relational databases, such as OpenEdge® RDBMS, Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, Sybase, or Informix, or they can be desktop applications such as Microsoft Excel. Sonic Database Service™ streamlines access and re-use of relational data sources within a SOA framework so you can integrate OpenEdge RDBMS and other industry-leading databases with applications across the enterprise.
It eliminates inflexible and costly custom coding, making it easy to configure and execute queries, updates, and stored procedures as broadly available services on the enterprise service bus. The addition of the Sonic Database Service allows the Sonic ESB® to provide a first-class connection to the OpenEdge environment at both the data and application levels. The OpenEdge Adapter for the Sonic ESB, available with the OpenEdge Application Server Enterprise Edition, allows OpenEdge applications to be deployed and managed as services on the enterprise service bus.
Out-of-the-box connectivity is provided for OpenEdge RDBMS as well as other leading relational databases including Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, Informix and Sybase.
Sonic Database Service automatically populates SQL query parameters based on incoming XML message parameters, and transforms result sets back to XML. ESB-enabled, the Sonic Database Service also provides remote administration of OpenEdge RDBMS and other database connections and configurations through the Sonic Management Console.
