OpenEdge RDBMS is an open, flexible, scalable, and highly available database solution that supports virtually unlimited numbers of users and transactions with minimal administration and maintenance.

OpenEdge RDBMS provides industry-leading performance, scalability, and reliability. Its superior, highly-flexible data storage capabilities allow multiple clients to access the same data (Progress 4GL, SQL access via ODBC and JDBC) enabling easy integration with SQL and Java applications, such as Business Intelligence and OLAP tools. OpenEdge RDBMS simplifies maintenance and administration with self-configuring and self-optimizing capabilities to the extent that most deployment sites do not need a single DBA. A low total cost of ownership means greater ROI for the business.

OpenEdge RDBMS features online administration and backup tools to reduce planned downtime. It delivers high availability with data replication, automatic crash recovery, advanced backup recovery, and cluster failover. OpenEdge RDBMS easily scales to handle thousands of simultaneous users and high traffic loads, providing fast user response time regardless of how many users are connected.

There are three product editions of the OpenEdge RDBMS to address critical database storage and management issues.

OpenEdge Personal RDBMS provides a single user database engine ideal for development or deployment to PC-based users.
OpenEdge Workgroup RDBMS is designed for deployment in a departmental or small business environment that involves a limited number of users (up to 50). Provides an attractive price point for midsize installations while still providing a full function database server.
OpenEdge Enterprise RDBMS is designed to meet the needs of midsize to large businesses. With enhanced database performance and scalability features to support virtually unlimited numbers of users (more than 10,000), the OpenEdge RDBMS Enterprise Edition provides the ideal foundation for building data warehouse, transaction processing, Web-based, or packaged applications.
OpenEdge Client Networking is required for run-time access to OpenEdge RDBMS.
